Ok, so you’re a property owner and you know what you want to do with the space. Whether it’s for your own residential purpose, or you’ve decided to rent it out, you need to get the interior design right. There are so many styles to choose from, finishing a property can be a bewildering task. Follow our interior design tips below to get it right.
You don’t have to be an art expert to beautifully decorate your home with art and paintings. Displaying artwork is a great way to add visual interest on your walls; done correctly it can create a flow to the style of your home. A single piece should be hung at eye level, and you should treat two or more pieces as one. Tempted to try a gallery wall? The only rule here is to apply the same spacing around all the elements within the gallery wall.
A console table is very useful because of the versatility of its function, and it makes an ideal blank canvas for decorating. Choose a console table that works with the style you want to achieve in the rest of the space. Add a statement piece to create a focal point. This could be a mirror, large flower arrangement, or sculpture. Stack some books at different heights to act as a base for other items. Create more height with a lamp, plants, candles, or artwork. Layer the accent pieces at different levels to create visual interest.
Room looking boring? Add a rug! A carpet can really complete a room by defining areas visually. If you are incorporating more than one in the same room, make sure each compliments the other and that they are not fighting for attention. You can even use a rug outdoors to create the same kind of harmony and elegance.
Ultimately, the purpose of the space will dictate its design. An office will have very different décor than a home, because the primary function is so different. If the space will be used for tourist short lets, then you should think of a place to store one’s luggage, but there is no need for an enormous amount of storage space. If this is your own home, you’ll need to consider where you will be spending most of your time. If there are any limitations, for example the bathroom is very tiny, consider innovative solutions such as a recessed shelf ledge along one of the walls.
